Niagara Falls, New York

P. Marlin July 2021

There is much history in Niagara Falls, New York. In its early days, several early American presidents visited Niagara Falls including James Monroe, Wiliam Henry Harrison, Martin Van Buren, and Abraham Lincoln, the latter of which stayed at the Cataract Hotel with his wife Mary Todd. It was also in Niagara Falls that Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse built the first large-scale, alternating current electric generating plant in the world (1895). Harnessing the power of the falls, the site was called Adams Station Power Plant. In addition, Niagara Falls State Park, which is one of the nicest state parks I have visited, is the oldest state park in the United States.
