Silvestro Lupo (Gen II)

Early records show that Silvestro Lupo, son of Vincenzo Lupo and Josepha Laurino, was baptized at Riesi's Basilica Maria Santissima della Catena in 1806. Silvestro married Antonino Mule and became a sulfur miner at the nearby Trabia Tallarita mine. This family line continued with the birth of Silvestro's son, Vincenzo, who was born in 1829.

Vincenzo Lupo (Gen III)

Like his father, Silvestro, Vincenzo (born 1829) was baptized in the Basilica Maria Santissima della Catena. Vincenzo married Guiseppe Fiore, and they had a son, Salvatore, who was born in 1870. Guiseppa Fiore is recorded as being a wheat field worker. Italian women kept their maiden name when they married.

Salvatore Lupo (Gen IV)

Salvatore (1870) married Josephine Butera in Riesi. In the early 20th Century, Salvatore, Josephine and their children immigrated from Sicily to America traveling through Ellis Island. The ship manifest indicates that Salvatore and Josephine's children, Vincenzo, Salvatore, Guiseppe, and Rosaria, traveled to America separately from their parents.

Translation of Salvatore's birth record: On the year of 1870 on the 28th day of August in the Comune building at the hour 22:00 In front of me, Francesco Trapani, Bishop of the Comune of Riesi, in the area of Terranova, Province of Caltanissetta, acting in the place of the mayor, as he is sick, official of the Stato Civile is the man Vincenzo Lupo degli Silvestro, 46 years old, sulfur worker living in and resident of Riesi, who has presented to me a child of masculine sex, whom he declares was born on the 26th day of ‘70 month of August at the hour of 9:00 in from his wife Giuseppa Fiore of unknown parents, 38 years old, grain worker resident of this habitation located in Comune of Riesi to his son which he declares the name Salvatore. This declaration is made on behalf of Vocculo Errazio, 46 years old, and Urbano Nalampola, 40 years old, both residents and living in Riesi, testimonies And notaries themselves, which after having read the present acts contemporarily with the original statement, have declared themselves testimonies for attesting what they declare. Immigration to America

Ship manifests from the S.S. Perugia, which sailed from Palermo, Sicily and arrived at Ellis Island on November 22, 1910, lists the names of Vincenzo, Salvatore, Guiseppe and Rosaria Lupo. All travelers were 15 years and younger, with Rosaria being 3. The children were admitted to the Ellis Island hospital upon arrival. Salvatore and Josephine, who seemingly traveled separately from their children, have not been found on ship manifests.

Upon arriving in America, the Salvatore Lupo family lived in McKeesport, Pennsylvania for a short time. Their son, Stephen, was born in McKeesport. By 1920, the family settled in Jersey City, New Jersey as indicated by the following census records. Salvatore is listed as a shoemaker.

Salvatore, Josephine, and John (Gian) Lupo are buried at the Bayview Cemetery in Jersey City, New Jersey. This line of the Lupo family continues through Rosaria Lupo who married Pasquale Anzaldi, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Pasquale was also an immigrant from Riesi, Sicily.

Rosaria (Rose) Lupo (Gen V)

Rosaria Lupo was the last of her Lupo family to be born in Riesi. According to her birth record, she was born on Via Principe Umberto. Born in 1907, she traveled to America at only three years old with her older siblings. After settling in Jersey City, New Jersey with her family, Rosaria married Pasquale Anzaldi and had three children, Marietta, Charles, and Joan. Rosaria opereated a dress shop on Washington Street in Jersey City.

By 1950, Rosaria moved to Miami, Florida. She continued to operate a dress shop for many years. She died in North Carolina in 1999.
