Daniel Cleveland 1791-1876

Daniel Cleveland, of the Cleveland Family and father of Jerusha Bushnell Cleveland Hawley, was born in Norwich, Connecticut, June 22, 1791. He owned property near the wharf, inherited from his mother, and had a share in the Norwich city library. 1 There he learned reed making, as well as being an artist, penman and jeweler. He married Clarrissa Ely October 9, 1815 in West Springfield, Massachusetts. He moved to Springfield, Pennsylvania in 1816 where he built a flour mill, operated it for a few years, then, after the death of his wife, Clarrissa Ely, he moved to Fairview, Iowa, where he died February 2, 1876.
